Kristen Stewart Can't Face Robert Pattinson After Cheating Scandal

It promised to be the reunion of the century for Twilight fans — but this promise was made to be broken.

Producers of the annual MTV Video Music Awards, the blowout of the year for favorite celebrities of the 25-and-under set, had been hoping to pair Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as surprise presenters at the Sept. 6 event, giving the on- and off-screen lovers an early chance to promote their bloodsucking swan song, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, due out in November.

But all hell broke loose when photos surfaced of Kristen, 22, caught in an illicit embrace in L.A. on July 17 with Rupert Sanders, 41, the married director of her recent film Snow White & the Huntsman.

A month later, in one of the least surprising announcements ever, Kristen reportedly pulled out of any possibility of appearing at the VMAs because of a scheduling conflict “around the same date” with the premiere of her movie On the Road at the Toronto International Film Festival. She’s also skipping this year’s upcoming huge Twilight fan conventions (as is Robert), which she attended in past years.

“I don’t think Kristen had the stomach to be anywhere near Robert so soon after she tore his heart out,” a friend tells Star. “She really hasn’t recovered from the shame she brought on herself and the realization of the pain she inflicted on the guy who was the love of her life.
