OK! caught up with American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina yesterday in NYC, and the bubbly Southern belle dished all about her Idol days and her connection with winner Scotty McCreery. She debunked some rumors and also commented on whether or not a girl could ever win the hit Fox singing competition again.
"No, we're just friends," Lauren told OK! with a big smile of all those relationship rumors about her and Scotty which she fueled when she planted a big smooch on his lips during the Idol finale.
As far as the "McLaina" moniker given to the duo, Lauren shared, "We've had that since the very beginning," and maintained that there is no romance between the two.
"Scotty's like my brother," she added, explaining that she would never date him.
Scotty's win marks the fourth year in a row that a guy has won Idol. So what's the fate of female contestants on the show?

"I think the majority of the voters for the show are young girls, and young girls love cute young guys," Lauren explained. "They like the all-American guy like Scotty. He is a doll, he is a Christian, he is athletic and girls love that. And he can sing like no other. Girls like voting for that."
She added: "I mean I made it to top two and that is pretty much like winning. I got just as much publicity as he did. He just got the American Idol title."
"So yeah, I think a girl can win again."
