The search is over for the lead role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Rooney, A Nightmare on Elm Street and upcoming actress in The Social Network, is the chosen one

Rooney has landed the role alongside Daniel Craig, Sony Pictures Entertainment released in a statement (via Deadline New York), for Columbia Pictures' three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – the first film of the series, which also includes The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest – begins shooting next month in Sweden," according to the statement. "The screenplay is written by Steve Zaillian and the film is being produced by Scott Rudin, Cean Chaffin, Ole Sondberg and Søren Stærmose. Mikael Wallen and Anni Fernandez are executive producers."
