Why has Lindsay Lohan been absent from the Twitterverse? While the 24-year-old socialite is working towards recovery from her addictions,  she is reportedly  not allowed to Tweet from rehab.

Allegedly, Lilo, who is being treated for substance at the Betty Ford Center, is "only allowed to use her phone for two hours a day, and only to keep in touch with family and close friends," The New York Post reports, via PopEater.

"Before, she would repeatedly and compulsively e-mail her friends if she was ever in a situation where she felt lonely, and she would vent on Twitter," the source added.

The phone policy is routine for Betty Ford patients, as it is important for those recovering to concentrate only on themselves.

Lindsay's self-admitted stay in rehab comes after failing two court-ordered drug tests.

Earlier this year, Lindsay spent 13 days in jail and three weeks in a treatment facility when she violated her probation resulting from a 2007 DUI arrest.

She admitted on her Twitter that she struggles with addiction, Tweeting:

"Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future."
