Mariska Hargitay had a whirlwind of a year in 2011. The Law & Order: SVU star and husband Peter Hermann had a heartbreaking experience when their adoption fell through, but they finally were able to take home daughter Amaya — now a year old — last April.

Once they were finally settled down with their 6-month-old baby girl and their biological son, August, 5, their lawyer gave them a call, letting the couple know there was a 2-month-old baby boy ready to be adopted. Mariska and Peter couldn't refuse the opportunity.
"It was one of those things that we were not expecting at all, and my husband and I looked at each other and have never been more sure about anything and knew it was just right," she tells Ellen DeGeneres today about adopting their son Andrew, now 9 months old.
"It was very exciting and just felt like nothing short of a miracle," a teary-eyed Mariska adds of Andrew, who arrived two days after she and Peter signed the papers. "This year has been the year of true blessings."

Sometimes Mariska, who balances long work days with raising three young kids in NYC, can't believe her luck.
"It's pretty dreamy," she admits. "Somedays I just sit and pinch myself because you have one kid and you think, 'Oh, my God, I'll never love another kid.' And then the second one comes and you can't believe that you love them, and then a third one fell out of the sky!"
