Martina McBride's Low Key Style

Country music superstar Martina McBride doesn’t let awards shows get to her. The four-time Country Music Award female vocalist of the year winner tells OK! she keeps her pre-awards show routine surprisingly low-key.

Instead of spending hours primping and preening, she took her 2-year-old daughter, Ava, to Gymboree. “We had fun doing that,” she explains to OK!. The multi-platinum artist then hung out with her parents before heading to show rehearsals and getting ready.

McBride was nominated in the Top Female Vocalist category. When asked whether she had a speech prepared, she confessed to OK!, “No, no speech. I am a little nervous. I'm doing fine and then I think about it and my stomach does that somersault thing.” Of course, it was all moot as she ultimately lost out on the honor to Carrie Underwood.

Of course, it helps that McBride’s husband, sound engineer John McBride, keeps her calm. “He is just great. He is so fun and supportive. He is also my sound engineer and made sure the sound was just right, which gives me great peace of mind.”
