Melissa Gilbert Files For Divorce

After separating this past January, Melissa Gilbert and her husband of 16 years, Bruce Boxleitner, are divorcing.

The Little House on the Prairie actress filed the petition for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, as reported by Radar Online. As for the reason, she indicated it was due to "irreconcilable differences."

In fact, Melissa isn't asking for spousal support from Bruce, however she is seeking joint custody for their 15-year-old son, Michael. (In case you're wondering, yes, he's named after her late costar, Michael Landon.)

This isn't the only split in the Gilbert family the very same week. Melissa's younger sister, Sara Gilbert of Roseanne fame, broke up with her partner, Allison Adler after a 10 year relationship.

Mum's the word since Melissa didn't exactly broadcast her divorce news on Twitter. Instead, she's forging ahead and dishing about her next book. She tweeted, “New book, tentative title; Melissa Gilbert's Prairie Memories published by Abrams Image books. Available spring 2012!”
