In a not-so-shocking turn of events, it turns out Michael Lohan was the "mystery person" behind the Lindsay Lohan Letterman hoax. Michael has admitted to being the person behind Lindsay's planned appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman tonight which has since gone awry.

Today, producers of the Late Show said the 24-year-old actress would not be appearing to deliver the "Top Ten" segment as announced, because a mistake had been made.

OK! NEWS: LINDSAY LOHAN WON'T BE ON LETTERMAN; STARLET SORRY FOR CONFUSION

"We made a mistake. Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear. Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf," Tom Keaney, a spokesman for Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, said in a statement.

At first it looked like a possible prank caller pretending to be from Lindsay's camp confirmed her would-be appearance, but Michael has admitted to being the mystery man behind the whole operation.

Michael told TMZ he got the idea for Lindsay to make a cameo via satellite on the Late Show after Dave cracked a joke at Lindsay's expense during Friday's "Top Ten" list.

He claims Lindsay "knew full well" about the booking and that everything was going smoothly until her reps heard about the appearance.

"Anything positive that I bring into her life ... her people try to nix it," the concerned father told TMZ.

The Late Show guest spot would have been Lindsay's first TV appearance since she was charged last week with stealing a $2,500 gold necklace, days after leaving rehab.

Lindsay also Tweeted her thoughts on the Letterman mix-up.

“I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman, I’m not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion…” she wrote.

The troubled starlet pleaded not guilty last week to grand theft — which currently is the most serious charge against the actress in her troubled past of failed drug tests, missed court appearances and stints in jail stemming from a 2007 drunk driving and cocaine possession offense.
