'Modern Family' Wins Big at 2011 Emmy Awards
Sept. 19 2011, Published 1:39 p.m. ET
How's this for irony? Although Glee's Jane Lynch hosted the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards last night, her show didn't take home one coveted award! Modern Family, however, cleaned up and won five Emmys in total including Outstanding Comedy Series! In fact, after one commercial break Jane welcomed back the audience by saying, "Welcome to the Modern Family Awards." Check out more highlights and winners after the jump!
Early in the evening, Julie Bowen from Modern Family won her very first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress and soon after her TV hubby Ty Burrell won for Supporting Actor, as noted by E! Online. Julie's win prompted her to exclaim at the podium, "Are you kidding me? I don't know what I'm going to talk about in therapy next week now. I won something!"

Ty weaved his speech with chuckles and sentiment, saying he wished that his late father would have been alive to see the win considering he took up acting later in life. Then he pondered his dad would have asked, "But why the makeup?"
As for other highlights, including the classic moment when contestants — er, nominees — for the Outstanding Actress, Comedy Series were announced, one by one they all got on stage and started to hold hands, beauty pageant-style. After Melissa McCarthy was crowned the winner, she literally was bestowed with roses, a tiara and of course, the Emmy prize. Well done, ladies, well done!
