Dylan McDermott has made a name for himself as one of Hollywood’s sexiest hunks, but behind his striking blue eyes he hides a dark family secret — which he refused to speak about for over four decades.

“Well, first of all, he’s earned the right. He is an extremely handsome guy. My girlfriends would be like ‘Oh my god, he’s so handsome, he’s sexy!’” says McDermott’s sister, Robin McDermott-Herrera, speaking of his film career on REELZ’s new docuseries, Geraldo Rivera’s Murder In the Family: Dylan McDermott.

“He did American Horror Story and unfortunately showed his butt. My girlfriend’s like ‘Oh my god he’s gorgeous,’” she adds.

The camera has always loved him, but whenever the subject of his mother’s death was raised in interviews before 2010, he declined to answer.

“He deflects a lot of those questions. He doesn’t wanna talk about it. And who could blame him? How could you really talk about something that you really don’t know enough about?” says Jonathan Shugarts, a reporter familiar with the case.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, McDermott, 57, was just 5 years old when his mother was shot dead by her boyfriend, serial criminal John Sponza, inside their home. For decades the murderer maintained his innocence, but eventually, McDermott persuaded investigators into reopening the case and finding the truth.

“The death of McDermott’s mother must’ve haunted him for years,” continues Shugarts.

Geraldo Rivera’s Murder In the Family: Dylan McDermott airs Saturday, November 17 at 9 ET / PT on REELZ.
