Nora Ephron, the author, screenwriter and director known for her string of romantic comedies such as When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and You've Got Mail, has died. She was 71.
According to Deadline, sources indicated she was suffering from leukemia but didn't want the entertainment business community to know; she kept her illness private.
She was married to Watergate scandal reporter Carl Bernstein before divorcing and marrying Nicholas Pileggi, also a screenwriter. In fact, Nora wrote the 1980's hit, Heartburn, starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson, based on her dissolving marriage to Carl.
Throughout her career, Nora earned three Oscar nominations for screenwriting for Silkwood, When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless and Seattle. Most recently, she wrote and directed the 2009 film, Julie & Julia.
May she rest in peace.
