OK!'s Guide to Inauguration Weekend
Jan. 16 2009, Published 7:54 a.m. ET
OK! is heading down early to the 2009 inauguration. Why would we head down on Friday if Barack Obama isn’t sworn in until Tuesday?’ you ask. The parties of course! OK! will have every inch of Washington D.C. covered to make sure you get all the low down on all the bashes, clashes, rendezvous, hookups, balls and shindigs. With over a hundred balls this weekend, we’ve made it easy for you by picking our 2009 top nine inauguration bashes. We’ve also come up with our own burning questions for the weekend and feel free to send us any of yours!
#1
WHAT: Huffington Post Party
WHEN: Jan. 19
WHO: Sting and will.i.am are performing and guests include Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Jon Bon Jovi, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Marisa Tomei, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
THE DISH: Hollywood has its “A-Listers” and then it has “the A-Listers.” Sure you’ve got your Britneys and Lindsays, but this party boasts a room overflowing with Hollywood’s most talented, gorgeous and politically minded celebs — the cream of the crop. And with a guest list that’s tighter than a Vanity Fair Oscar party, you can guarantee no “Tara Reid types” will be sneaking in. We’re dying to know: Will Ashton and Demi hit the dance floor? Will Halle Berry bring her hot model man (and will he give her a ring already?) Who will Steven Spielberg be mingling with? Does that mean he’s putting them in a movie? We’ll have our eyes on everyone.

WHAT: We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration Concert
WHEN: Jan. 18
WHO: Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder.
THE DISH: This event is free to the public! No, that's not a typo — FREE! It’s sweet music to our ears! ABC will carry the event live from the Washington Convention Center at 8pm ET. Can Shakira still shake her mountains? Will Beyoncé transform into — gasp! — Sasha Fierce? What is Josh Groban doing here? And will will.i.am show off his photos from Fergie’s wedding? We’re on it.
#3
WHAT: Creative Coalition Presented by Pepsi
WHEN: Jan. 20
WHO: Sting, Anne Hathaway, Spike Lee, Tim Robbins, Kerry Washington, Susan Sarandon, Jane Krakowski, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Josh Lucas, Rachael Leigh Cook and Alan Cumming.
THE DISH: Sting is performing for the second night in a row and we’ve got loads of questions — Will Anne Hathaway bring her new boy toy? Will Maggie and Peter canoodle? Does She’s All That star Rachel Leigh Cook still look like she’s in high school? Will Spike Lee sport his infamous NY Knicks cap to the ball??? Our mind is racing. Meanwhile, guests at the party will get a chance to try Pepsi’s newest beverage, Pepsi Natural, an all-natural cola served in glass bottles.
#4
WHAT: Declare Yourself
WHEN: Jan. 18
WHO: Jessica Alba, Maroon 5, Samantha Ronson
THE DISH: Will Lindsay Lohan crash the party and bring her ongoing relationship drama with girlfriend Sam Ronson to D.C.? Will the world end if Linds goes after Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, who she once had an obsessive crush on? And does Jessica Alba’s post-baby bod look as good as it does in pictures? We’ll be on the lookout.

WHAT: Purple Ball
WHEN: Jan. 20
WHO: Kate Walsh, Josh Lucas, Ashley Judd, Patricia Arquette, Ed Harris, Angela Bassett, John Cusack, Brendan Fraser, David Alan Grier, Terrence Howard, Maria Menounos, Edward Norton and Lisa Marie Presley.
THE DISH: Will Lisa Marie bring her new twin girls to the party? Will newly single stars Kate Walsh and Patricia Arquette team up to find rebound guys? Will Brendan Fraser sing the George of the Jungle theme? Even if we ask really nicely?
#6
WHAT: American Scholars Inaugural Ball
WHEN: Jan. 18
WHO: Macy Gray, LL Cool J, Alicia Keys and others.
THE DISH: Will Macy Gray wear a self-promoting outfit (like the “My New Album drops Sept 18, 2001” dress she wore to the VMAs)? Will LL Cool J sport some shades inside? Will Alicia Keys give an impromptu concert? Only time will tell.
#7
WHAT: Latino Inaugural Ball
WHEN: Jan. 18
WHO: Marc Anthony and Paulina Rubio perform. Attending are Jennifer Lopez, Rosario Dawson, George Lopez, Rosie Perez and Wilmer Valderrama.
THE DISH: Will J.Lo have her ring on? Will we see a showdown between the bootylicious star and her man? Which young starlet will be on the arm of eternal ladies man Wilmer? Will George Lopez be cracking jokes all night?
#8
WHAT: Presidential Inaugural Luncheon & Fashion Show
WHEN: Jan. 18
WHO: Project Runway star Nick Verreos.
THE DISH: The former reality star and designer has designed nine gowns inspired by America’s First Ladies. Amazing! Will Hillary’s dress be a suit? Will Laura wear an “I love George shirt?” Will Jackie O’s model wear her iconic shades? Can she see where she’s going on the runway if she does? Who knew Martha Washington was a trendsetter?
#9
WHAT: Youth Concert
WHEN: Jan. 19
WHO: The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Bow Wow.
THE DISH: The event will be televised at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel and then streamed on Disney.com. Our favorite young fashionistas, Malia and Sasha Obama, will even be in attendance with their parents (yes, that includes daddy Barack). Who says you need to be able to vote to go to the inauguration? Underage and barely legal teen heartthrobs will participate in the concert to honor military families. Will Malia and Sasha get down to the Jonas Bros? Do they know all the words? What’s their favorite song? What are they wearing? We love you Obama girls. Will Miley avoid her ex Nick Jonas? Will Nick’s girlfriend’s best friend, Demi, be on spy control? Thank goodness, we’re not in high school anymore.
Of course, there are a ton of celebrities hitting D.C. just to be on hand for the historic inauguration on Jan. 20. VanityFair.com has a pretty thorough list of expected stars to check out.
