Clash of the Titans – A special-effects heavy orgy of badly-acted yet engrossing Greek mythology, the remake of the cornball classic tells the story of divine offspring Perseus (Sam Worthington), who challenges Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and turns Olympus on its head while battling colossal titans. The popcorn-munching fare plays better on the small screen than it did in theaters in poorly rendered 3D. The Blu-ray includes a digital copy, an alternate ending, deleted scenes and several featurettes.

THE PHILMGUY REVIEWS: SALT

Batman: Under the Red Hood – A stylish animated entry into the Dark Knight mythos, this tale combines three generations of the manchildren who served as Batman's assistant Robin as the Caped Crusader takes on a forboding, red-hooded opponent who seems to know all his secrets. The so-called mystery is easy to uncover, but the movie is surprisingly poignant for the way it gets into Bruce Wayne's head and analyzes the contentious yet symbiotic relationship between him and his Boy Wonders. The Blu-ray includes a digital copy and a featurette that analyzes DC Comics' decision to kill off Robin.

THE PHILMGUY'S DVD REVIEW: COP OUT; JERSEY SHORE

Fanboys Blu-ray – A mythology built up around this long-gestating, oft-reshot comedy about a group of teens in 1999 who venture off to the Lucas ranch to watch The Phantom Menace before it's released to the public. There's an eclectic grouping of stars in the supporting cast, including Kristen Bell, Seth Rogen and Danny Trejo, but the movie is a lifeless clunker that can't conjure laughs or drama. Deleted scenes, cast and crew commentary and an introduction from director Kyle Newman round out the extras.

THE PHILMGUY REVIEWS: INCEPTION

Rambo: Extended Cut and Rambo: The Complete Collector's Set Blu-rays – It's odd that Rambo is making another Blu-ray tour of duty after coming out on Blu-ray just two years ago, but I'm never one to complain about more of the stouthearted musclebound killing machine. The Complete Collector's Set, which can be had on Amazon for less than $40, is certainly the way to go if you're at all a fan of the Sylvester Stallone collection. It includes all four movies in the series in slim packaging as skinny as that of an average Blu-ray. The films include the sizable selection of extras from the previous releases. The Extended Cut, which is not included in the Complete Collector's Set, is for hard-core devotees of Rambo's 2008 adventure, and adds nine minutes to the film and includes 90 minutes of new special features.

THE PHILMGUY'S DVD REVIEW: THE BOUNTY HUNTER; GREENBERG

Phil Villarreal’s humorous money-saving book, Secrets of a Stingy Scoundrel, is available on Amazon.
