Randy Quaid and his wife Evi Quaid fled to Canada after claiming they believed “Hollywood star whackers” were after them and they have now been granted permission to stay. Randy and Evi are wanted on $500,000 bench warrants in the United States.
According to the CBC, the Canada Border Services Agency dropped inadmissibility proceedings against the Quaids after they applied for refugee status in October.
The couple reportedly spoke out in a new conference Wednesday morning in Vancouver.
“When Evi and I came to Canada last October we could never have envisioned how things would unfold and how our lives would change. Today we’re here to say thank you Canada,” Randy said. “Thank you for your warm welcome. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to live in peace.”
In the U.S., the Quaids are facing felony burglary charges and misdemeanor counts.
They have not attended any court hearings since the case was filed in October and have paid $1 million in bail.
