The Reason Robert Downey Jr. & Zach Galifianakis Are Red Poppy Pals

Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis recently styled red poppy pins on their jackets to the premiere of Due Date and lots of poppy pins have now been popping up on other stars. So, while many of you may know, here's an explanation for those who don't as to why the stars are posing with poppies.

According to Suite101, The Royal British Legions Poppy Factory in Richmond, Surrey has made more than 45 million poppies this year in hopes of helping to raise money for soldiers wounded in Afghanistan.

Since the 1920's, red poppies have been worn in the U.K. in remembrance of those who gave in both World Wars and the wars after. They are worn leading up to Remembrance Day, which marks the end of World War I.

The paper poppies represent the red corn poppies that were found all over the battlefields of France after World War I. Like the young men killed in battle, poppies only live for a short time.
