Red Carpet Confidential: How Amy Poehler Bounced Back From Split With Will Arnett
Nov. 14 2012, Published 10:03 a.m. ET
Amy Poehler is not one to let a circumstance like separating from hubby Will Arnett keep her down.
The couple, who are parents to sons Archie, 4, and Abel, 2, split in September after nine years of marriage.
The Parks and Recreation star, 41, has found solace in her work with Worldwide Orphans, which delivers health care, schooling, attachment therapy, sports and arts programs to orphans and at-risk children living in Haiti, Vietnam, Bulgaria and Ethiopia. She serves as their Ambassador of Arts.
“Giving back is the ultimate way to get out of yourself and to be of service,” she tells me Tuesday during the Worldwide Orphans 15th Anniversary Gala held at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC.
She adds, “The WWO provides much-needed services for children who need it the most.”
For Amy, the foundation serves as a lifeline.
“It means service, having an open heart and paying attention to the rest of the world.”

Amy is well aware that she serves as a role model for their young sons.
“I try to be a power of example and raise them as kind and conscious people,” she says.
While the former Saturday Night Live star could have been a diva and arrived way late after she got stuck in traffic before the WWO Gala, she instead gets out of the car and walks the remaining three blocks to make it to the event in time.

Onstage she is joined by The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield, who serves as the group’s Ambassador of Sport. They battle for bids to see who can raise the most money for a private lunch with themselves and WWO founder, Dr. Jane Aronson.
While Amy offers the crowd a private beat-boxing session, Andrew woos them even more by promising he would show up to the lunch in a Spider-Man suit and do crunches!
Want to help? Amy is hosting an eBay auction benefitting WWO. She’s auctioning off a set visit to Parks and Recreation for one lucky fan and two friends. The auction runs through Nov. 16, and 100% of the winning bid will benefit WWO.
