Red Carpet Confidential: Josh Lucas Says His "Beard is a Beast" At the Premiere of His Movie, Big Sur

Josh Lucas is still getting used to his new scruffy look after he had to grow a beard for a movie role.

“My beard is a beast!” Josh, 42, exclaims to me Monday during the Brooks Brothers and SK-II premiere of Ketchup Entertainment’s Big Sur. “It’s its own entity these days. I did it for a movie because I was playing a guy who was slowly becoming homeless and slowly letting go.”

Josh's wife Jessica, who is the mother of his 16-month-old son Noah, was quick to weigh in with her thoughts on his grizzled look. She’s here tonight with the other stars of the Jack Kerouac-inspired drama including Kate Bosworth and her hubby, director Michael Polish, plus 90's teen magazine staple Balthazar Getty.

“What my wife said to me is ‘you know a man’s let go when he lets his beard grow the way you’ve let your beard grow.’”

Still, the facial hair is—literally and figuratively—growing on him.

“I’ve started to get a little bit of control of it now laughs, but there’s been times when I felt like it was disgusting. I felt like there was an animal on my face, but I’m growing fond of this beard now.”
