Being married to Kevin Jonas hasn’t quite given wife Danielle the princess-style life she expected.

The former hairdresser, 24, tied the knot with the boybander, also 24, in 2009 after dating the purity-ring-wearing teen idol for two years.

Lucky her: They met while their families were vacationing in the Bahamas and instantly clicked. At the time, the Jonas Brothers, including younger brothers Joe, now 23, and Nick, now 19, were on top of the world: They released four albums, scored a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and starred in the Disney Channel’s Camp Rock franchise.

And the nuptials happened fast: They were engaged five months, and then set up a home in their native New Jersey.

“It’s definitely not what I thought,” Danielle tells me of being married to a Jonas Brother. “I thought that I was going to have a nice, calm life at home, and now I’m touring with my husband and doing different things that I never thought I was going to do, so it’s exciting.”

She adds, “In the beginning, it was tough because I had to leave my family and everything, but now that we’re back in New Jersey and I get to spend time with them, I actually miss being on the road because I get to see my family so much now laughs.”

Both families are part of the couples’ new reality show, Married To Jonas, which begins Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on E! In addition to the couple and his famous brothers, the cast includes his parents Kevin Sr. and Denise, plus younger brother Frankie;  and her family: dad Bucky, mom Angela, and her siblings, Dina, Mikey and Katie.

They will lift the lid on the glamorous — and not-so-glamorous — aspects of their lives each week.

“Anytime we go anywhere, we always make peanut butter and jelly,” Kevin tells me. “Even if we go for a car ride into the city, Danielle’s always making peanut butter and jelly.”

They even get on each other’s nerves.

“I am quite a mess when it comes to keeping a room straight,” Kevin says.

What’s the most New Jersey thing about them?

“Her hair,” Kevin riffs.

Danielle laughs, “My hair laughs — no. I think the food. The Italian food is amazing, and the way my family talks.”

For Kevin, going from living a pampered life at home with his parents to wedded bliss as a husband to Danielle has been an eye-opener.

“I’ve definitely become more domestic,” he says. “You see a lot of that in the TV show. Well, trying to become is the better word for it. I am definitely enjoying doing things around the house – trying to fix things and learning things from my father-in-law and people around me. It’s interesting, to say the least. I’m very good with a guitar, but not so much with a hammer.”

And then, there’s the baby issue.

“We haven’t actually decided how many kids we want yet because I want one thing and she wants another,” he says. “We’re still working that out. That’s still a topic of conversation.”

Danielle says, “We’re going to compromise.”

Although many married couples have gone their separate ways after stints on reality TV – Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson (Newlyweds), Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries (the Kardashian franchise), Jon and Kate Gosselin (Jon and Kate Plus 8), for example — this pair isn’t worried.

“I don’t worry about the reality curse,” Danielle says. “You are talking more, and if you handle it where you’re talking about your feelings with each other and everything, then you can’t get into that area.”

Kevin adds, “I think the communication level between Danielle and I has grown since we’ve done the show. It makes you talk about situations that you might let roll off your shoulder, but you have to speak about it. You have to talk your mind. It really allows you to voice your opinions and also learn so much about your partner.”

Who do they envision as dream sisters-in-law when it comes to mates for Kevin’s younger brothers Joe and Nick?

“No one has fit the bill yet,” Kevin says.

Still, Danielle has found her dream sister-in-law in someone who is already off the market.

Jessica Alba, because of the way that she is with her kids,” she says. “She does everything so well — her career, having her family. She’s with her kids constantly, and you don’t see her giving her kids off to someone. She’s spending time with them and enjoying it while they’re young. That’s really cool.”

What can we expect from their reality series?

“We’ve been very open and honest,” Kevin says. “Who you’re going to see on TV is who we are as people. You’ll see things about what we believe, where we come from, how we feel about family and how we feel about touring, and where life goes with being on the road to living at home to finding your own place in your young marriage and finding your destiny, and how you want to go along with life instead of having other people define who you are.”

He continues, “I think it will be interesting. I hope people will like it. I’m not so sure that we’re as overly dramatic as some of the others. There’s not tables flipping around on our show, but there are definitely moments.”

Danielle adds, “It’s genuine.”
