Red Carpet Confidential: 'SNL' Star Abby Elliott Admits Laughter Helped Her Weather Hurricane Sandy

Leave it to Abby Elliott to bring on the cheer during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The former Saturday Night Live star, 25, evacuated from her family’s Connecticut home after losing power in the superstorm last week.
“We lucked out,” she tells me Friday at the kickoff of the AXE Splitting Hairs Comedy Tour during the New York Comedy Festival. “We just lost power and evacuated. It could have been a lot worse. We were lucky.”
For a week-and-a-half, they were holed up with relatives.
“They were nice enough to put us up. Our whole family of four was there. It was a lot.”
Still, there was a bright side.
“It was great. It was concentrated family time, because we were all together in one room every night. We couldn’t really retreat to our own rooms, so it was like a concentrated version of every time I go home.”
Considering both she and her dad Chris Elliott are SNL alums, there was a lot of laughter.
What’s one special moment she’ll never forget?
“We were all going a little nutty, and we watched that HBO original movie The Girl about Tippi Hedren, The Birds, and Alfred Hitchcock, so we all dressed up like those characters from that movie and drank cosmos — and ate a lot of Kit Kats.”
Hm, any survival tips?
“A lot of red wine, I think, is how you get through it.”
Now that the power is back, she has a deeper love for one household item.
