Now that’s love!
Twilight beauty Nikki Reed plans to celebrate her first anniversary with hubby Paul McDonald in the music studio recording duets for their six-song EP.
“We’ll be recording our album,” she tells me with a laugh of her Oct. 16 anniversary plans during the AXE Showerpooling College Tour launch held this week at the University of Southern California in L.A. ”It’s right smack dab in the middle of our recording days. I’m excited about it, I’m nervous about it, understandably, and I feel like you can’t really go wrong if it feels organic and there’s something positive behind it.”
She continues, “We love writing together, working together and being together. Just being able to do something with someone you love is such a beautiful thing that no matter what comes of it, I’m happy to be doing it.”
Although Nikki doesn’t play any instruments, she is a master at writing lyrics with her man, who placed in the top nine of American Idol in 2011.
“Sometimes he comes up with a chorus, and he comes to me and says, ‘I can’t finish this,’ so I write verses,” she says. “Or he’ll write the majority and I’ll come in with the bridge. I mostly write lyrics, and he’s a great lyricist. Singing behind him — he’s just so good that it’s hard to make him sound bad no matter what I do. laughs”
What can we expect?
“There are songs that are pouring out from our hearts to one another. I think it’s a beautiful insight into a love story. It feels honest, natural and easy.”
For Nikki, working together as a married couple enriches their relationship.
“I feel like it makes it stronger, because there is such mutual admiration on that level. You can love someone and love what they do, but then to be able to do that together, the bond through creation together, is sort of unlike any other.”

She adds, “I’m sure creating a child laughs is much stronger, but this is our music baby, you know?”
Hm, when would they like to start a real family?
"I don’t have a particular time. I try to take things day by day, because there are days when I wake up, and all I want to do is have a family with Paul, and there are days when I wake up and I’m so excited for us to have the freedom to travel and do anything that we want to do.”
She continues, "it would be weird if I set a time on that, because I could change my mind tomorrow. I’m not sure, really, but not right at this moment."

Of course, she’s thrilled that she chose wisely in the mate department.
“I feel like when you’re choosing someone to be with, there’s no better feeling than always feeling like that person is better than you are. That’s the only way I can describe how I feel about him. Everything is so great!”
She adds, “Growing up, my dad always told me ‘don’t settle, because whoever ends up with you is going to be extremely lucky.’ That’s sort of like a dad thing to say, but that played over and over again when I was younger and I was dating. Now my dad says to me all the time, ‘you’re so, so lucky. laughs He goes, ‘Nicole, I think, if anything, you ended up the lucky one.’”
One way the couple keeps it hot is by showering together.
“We do a little showerpooling,” she says. “If a couple of people go in the shower, less water is used.”
