What happens to a show when you're the headliner? We'll just have to find out as Regis Philbin announced this morning that he's leaving the show that bears his name, LIVE! With Regis and Kelly.
The 79-year-old host told audience members, "It's been a long time, it's been 28 years since I've been here. And it was the biggest thrill of my life."
While his exit will happen either late summer or in the fall, he quips, "There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people."
Co-host Kelly Ripa adds, "I think I can only speak for America and all of us here when I say it has been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true." According to ABC News, a replacement for Regis will be found as Kelly continues to co-host the show she's starred in for a decade.
