Rob Shuter Exclusively Dishes To OK! About The New Season Of The Gossip Table
Sept. 28 2014, Published 10:03 p.m. ET
How should you start off your morning? By being naughty – of course! Rob Shuter and his group of panelists – Marianne Garvey, Noah Levy, Chloe Melas, Delaina Dixon – are back to break celebrity news and talk to all of your favorite (and hysterical!) celebrities from Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi to Rosie O’Donnell. Shuter exclusively opened up to OK! about why you need to check out the hilarious morning show.
OK!: When does your show, The Gossip Table, start and why should OK! readers check it out?
Rob Shuter: The show starts back on Monday, September 29th at 10am on VH1. What makes this show different from all the other entertainment shows and most of the other morning shows is that when a lot of other shows do hot topics, they do topics from RadarOnline.com or Okmagazine.com, or even my website, NaugthyButNiceRob.com. The concept of the show is we have five working gossip columnists… we all sit around a table and we all have to come to work everyday with one or two original stories that we break each morning. We have celebrities phone in too. Rosie O’Donnell called in, Joan Rivers — may she rest in peace— and Snooki called in. It’s live so people can call in and talk to us on the show.
And we’re not mean! We are naughty, but we are not mean girls. We never punch anybody. We pinch them and we do giggle and we do laugh, but we’re not mean girls. There is not one of us on that show that really doesn’t love celebrities.
OK!: How is it working with panelists Marianne Garvey, Noah Levy, Chloe Melas and Delaina Dixon everyday?
Rob Shuter: They’re my best friends. I used to be the executive editor of OK! Magazine. Delaina Dixon was the TV editor so I hired Delaina. If you’re going to sit next to people everyday it doesn’t matter if you’re on TV or in an office, you’ve got to like the people that you’re with. Marianne is the editor of the Confidential Column at the New York Daily News. As Marianne jokes, we’ve actually been doing this show for ten years on the couch in my living room, except we haven’t had any TV cameras there.
OK!: Who has been your favorite celebrity to cover so far?
Rob Shuter: Rosie O’Donnell is wild. I love when Rosie calls in because she says the most outrageous stuff and there is no filter with Rosie. She just tells you anything she wants. It’s really hard to get a celebrity to do a pilot because it’s a waste of their time, it’s never going to air. The only one who said yes was Joan Rivers and I’ll never forget how kind Joan was to this show and how she did the pilot.

OK!: Which celebrity has been the most naughty and most nice?
Rob Shuter: Jill Zarin is naughty from The Real Housewives of New York City. This is what I love about her: She is always hustling. There is always a deal going on, always something going on very urgent. Jill makes me laugh out loud. When I’m on the show, she had her iPhone on the desk and she was texting us while the show was on. It’s always breaking, urgent news about herself, which isn’t necessarily always that urgent, but she’s funny.
Dina Lohan called in once. She's just hilarious! She couldn’t figure out how to use the phone! She wanted to text in and I was like, ‘Dina you’re on television, you can’t text! You’ve got to call!’ She called in too and she was very funny and she was a good guest.
OK!: From Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa to Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo, what do you think about all of the celebrity splits?
Rob Shuter: It’s hard enough being in a relationship in your private life. It must be insanity having a relationship with the cameras following you around 24/7. I always root for couples to stay together. I get all sad when I find people break up. It’s quite tricky for celebrities to be told ‘yes’ all day then they have to go home and be told ‘no’ by their spouse. I think sometimes celebrities, they should stay single and just surround themselves around people who say ‘yes'… I always think when they break up, it’s going to be really hard to find a person because you’re so famous and you don’t know what their intentions are. Before you actually throw the towel in, think hard about it.
OK!: Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to discuss?
Rob Shuter: I just shot a new pilot called Sleeping With The Stars. I turn up at celebrity houses with an overnight bag and a camera crew and I look in their fridge, bedroom cabinets, in their oven, and I jump around their swimming pool. Then I put my pajamas on and we read bedtime stories. I did it with LuAnn de Lesseps. I showed up at her house in the Hamptons. She told me in the eight years she’s been doing The Real Housewives of New York she has never allowed a Bravo camera crew into her bedroom. I saw all the Countess' jewelry and it was gorgeous. I tried to steal a ring, but she caught me!
Season two of The Gossip Table returns on Monday morning at 10/9c on VH1.
