Considering he met Katy at a previous MTV awards show, he quipped, "Last time I did an MTV show, I ended up marrying someone. Tonight, I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife."
He didn't stop there — he jabbed at Kim Kardashian's short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries and mentioned he likes her current beau, Kanye West. Even though he mispronounced his name repeatedly as "Can-Yay," he urged Kimye to make a sex tape: "I think of Kim Kardashian as the Stanley Kubrick of sex tapes. They're always brilliant, but he only does one a decade."

Among other targets like Justin Bieber, Michael Fassbender, and Teen Mom as the butt of his jokes, Russell also poked fun at Charlie Sheen. During the monologue, Russell told the Anger Management star, "I've taped a bottle of Hennessy and a gram of coke under your chair. In case I start going crazy, just nick it and do a couple of lines. Release the tiger blood hero!"
