Russell Simmons: "Kimora’s a part of my life!"
Sept. 24 2007, Published 9:00 a.m. ET
Are you and Kimora still close?
We talk every day. She’s a part of my life and I’m a part of hers. I support everything she does. She’s a wonderful mother and wonderful business partner. I wish her nothing but the best, she deserves all the success she’s found and is a wonderful role model for our children and for women all over the world.
How did you get involved in your charity, the Diamond Empowerment Fund, that you’re promoting tonight?
It is to aid in raising money and awareness in Africa. The government neglects to take responsibility of these people suffering and in poverty. The fuel industry, the diamond industry, it all takes away from these people’s lives and contributes to their current state of living. Myself and Kimora, we are working together to find a solution. I encourage people to get behind worthy causes like this one.

It didn’t stem from watching Blood Diamond?
Laughing No, it did not. It came from acknowledging there was a problem and people that needed help and coming together for a good cause.
What do you think of Djimon Honsou?
I like Djimon, my kids like him, my wife likes him a lot and I like him. He’s dating Kimora and he makes her happy so, yeah, I like him.
You looked like you were very good friends with Djimon tonight, how long have you been friends?
Djimon and I have known each other a long time. He’s a smart man, a talented man and a good guy. Most importantly, he makes my wife happy.
