Sara Rue: I'm Fighting The Hollywood Pressure To Lose Baby Weight Fast
May 10 2013, Published 10:55 a.m. ET
Sara Rue is the proud mama of a beautiful 3-month-old baby girl, Talulah, and is in the throes of new motherhood.
But she is also a Hollywood actress with all the delights and pressures that come along with it. Including, the insane pressure stars are put under to 'snap back into shape' as soon as they've given birth.
But Sara, who has had her own weight battles in the past, has a refreshingly positive and realistic outlook about losing the post pregnancy pounds.
The Malibu Country star spoke to OKMagazine.com at the 15th Annual From Slavery To Freedom event for the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST LA).
The fantastic non-profit organization was fundraising, with the help of Jada Pinkett-Smith, Lisa Ling and Nicole Scherzinger, to help survivors who have escaped from unspeakable conditions.
Sara opened up to us about becoming a new mom and why she wanted to be involved in the work of CAST.
OK!: How did you become associated with CAST?
Sara Rue: A friend of mine asked me to come to a dinner that they were having over two years ago now. And I went and I was so impressed with the organization that I got in touch with Kay Buck and I was like let me know if I can do anything for you in the future and there were a couple of times that they asked me to do something and I was working and so this time I’m on maternity leave so I could be here. I was really happy that they called and this was definitely worth leaving my baby at home with my husband for tonight.
OK!: Were you shocked to find out about the human trafficking and slavery that happens in our back yards?
SR: Kay, the CEO, and I sat down and I was like tell me why I should care, so I can tell people why they should care. And she was telling me about a case where there was a woman who was literally tricked into coming to the United States and then enslaved in a home and forced to take care of the family’s children for years. She did not speak English, she could not ask for help and it was happening here in Los Angeles. And I just couldn’t believe it and I couldn’t believe it was happening here. And so when I heard that I was like I have to do something and be a part of that. And then when you hear what’s going on in Ohio… This is happening to people, people are being forced to live in conditions that are totally unacceptable and we all need to come out and raise awareness and also raise some cash for a fabulous non-profit like CAST so they can do the real work which is rehabilitate the victims.

OK!: One of the sponsors of the event is UEvolution who will be working with some of the women to teach them a healthy way of living through nutritious eating and exercise—how important do you think that is for them?
SR: Exercise and eating healthily always makes you feel better. I can’t even begin to imagine what these people have gone through and the survivors are heroes and are amazing so whatever makes them feel good they are entitled to and they deserve. If that is something that they are enjoying and loving then that’s great.
OK!: How’s motherhood going for you with baby Talulah?
SR: Motherhood is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I love her so much it hurts. It’s crazy. It really is the greatest thing I’ve ever done and every day is such a pleasure and now it’s getting really fun because she’s doing her baby talk and laughing and smiling a lot and that is just. There is nothing better than getting a smile, it’s the greatest thing.
OK!: You look great and glowing but did you feel pressure to lose the baby weight quickly?
SR: I’m fighting those feelings of feeling pressure. Of course, I’m aware of it and it’s Hollywood. I’ve been trying to walk and be healthy but the truth is I’m breastfeeding and I don’t want to mess with my milk supply because it’s good right now. (laughs) I’m just trying to be a good mom and I’m trying really hard not to let the Hollywood bulls**it enter into my mind right now. I’m just trying to be a good mom.
