NEWSSarah McLachlan Prefers Being a Single Mom

When Sarah McLachlan and hubby Ashwin Sood split in 2008, she became a single mom to their daughters India, 9, and Taa-Jah, 3. But the Grammy winner isn't complaining.
“It’s nice because I don’t have anybody else telling me what not to do,” she tells me with a laugh during the Food Bank For NYC’s Can-Do Awards Gala held this week at Abigail Kirsch’s Pier Sixty. “That being said, my ex-husband has been a great dad. My kids are with him right now, and I feel totally happy leaving them with him. We parent similarly, and I’ve got a great support system. I’m lucky – I have a nanny. I’ve got a lot of help.”

As a single mom, Sarah, 43, makes sure her daughters aren’t dinnertime complainers when it comes to being picky eaters.
“They’re not too bad,” she says. “It has to be simple. I can make chicken tenders, and they are good raw veggie eaters. Especially if you give them a nasty ranch dip, they’ll go to town on the broccoli, too. However you get the veggies in, you get the veggies in!”
What matters most to Sarah is keeping her family healthy, which she does with a daily dose of Vitamin D drops each morning.
