NEWSSeth Rogen Goes North For ‘Pineapple Express’

The stars descend on the Montreal premiere of Pineapple Express, which takes place at Imperial Theatre during the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. The fest’s green mascot, Victor, greets stars on the red carpet, and there’s a crush of French-speaking photogs and reporters.
With the success of Knocked Up, Superbad and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, does Seth Rogen consider himself to be a sex symbol?
“No, not at all,” he chuckles. “It’s gross. I don’t like the thought of myself having sex, so I try not to think about it.”
He clears up the rumors about why Olivia Thirlby’s role was recast. Amber Heard, who is on the cover of Maxim this month, replaced the Juno/Wackness star in the pot comedy that is in theaters now.
“We weren’t clear on what the character should have been at the time when we cast it,” Seth tells me. “We realized we hadn’t thought it through well enough and if we went a different direction, it could’ve been a stronger comedic choice, but she’s great. I’d love to work with her again. She’s awesome.”
Director Judd Apatow gets cagey when asked for the funniest person he knows.
“I can’t tell you that because I’ve worked with a lot of funny people. I can’t name one, but these guys are right up there. Look at this guy right here standing next to him, Bill Hader. Bill Hader is the funniest guy I’ve ever worked with. Ah, I’ve worked with a lot of people, but Seth and James were an amazing pair together. I always thought they were funny on Freaks and Geeks, so it’s great to have James show people how funny he is because he’s been hiding it.”

Bill repays the compliments.
“These guys do the best comedies around right now, so it’s pretty cool to be involved with that,” he tells me. “It’s really neat.”
Earlier in the afternoon, Judd confessed that Bill was in stitches for days when he had to say a particularly colorful line in the movie. “He had a total breakdown,” Judd says. “He could not say the word c***block. It took us three days to shoot.”
