Good news for Stephenie Meyer fans: the author's first adult novel, The Host, will soon join the Twilight saga on the silver screen. Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz have used their own money to acquire screen rights to Stephenie's book, Variety reports.
The Host is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by a benevolent alien species called “Souls.” They invade the minds of humans and take possession of their bodies. One such soul, The Wanderer, is fused with a dying human who is trying to unite with a small group of humans remaining on Earth. The two beings in one body come into conflict when the human's spirit refuses to leave.

After reading the book, Andrew Niccol, who will write the script and direct the film, met the producers and author, eager to join the project.
“We wanted Stephenie to be involved in the adaptation, and have her endorse and be part of the creative decisions,” Wechsler said. “Twilight has proven she knows more about what works than most.”
