Leah Messer arrived in New York to shoot photographs for the new season of Teen Mom 2 (which premiered on Dec. 6) looking nothing like her old self. The 19-year-old mom of 23-month-old twins sported bangs, multistreaked hair and a face that looked radically different. "The last year has been so difficult, and she really needed to do something to shake things up," explains an insider.

"She wanted a big change because she feels like she's looked the same forever," says an insider. It's no wonder she wanted a fresh start: Last April, Leah filed for divorce from Corey Simms, 21, the dad of her twins, Aleeah and Aliannah, and her husband of only six months.
There are, however, whispers that her new hair isn't the only difference in Leah. At the shoot, her brows appeared lifted, her smile refined and her skin glowed, a change that "could be the result of nonoperative methods," says NYC plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Kaufman, who did not treat her. "Botox and other facial fillers can improve contour of the cheeks or certain facial furrows. Chemical peels and laser rejuvenation can also improve the quality and appearance of the skin."

While some fans may not recognize her now, insider says Leah's confident she did the right thing. "Leah's really happy with her new look," says the insider. "She feels really sexy and empowered."
