The journalism community is mourning a talented photographer and film director today, as reports indicate that Oscar nominee Tim Hetherington has been killed in Misrata, Libya.
Hetherington and his colleague Sebastian Junger directed the Oscar-nominated Restrepo, a 2010 documentary chronicling one of the most war-torn areas of Afghanistan. They were up for Best Feature Documentary at the 2011 Academy Awards.
CNN reports the sad news, citing Hetherington's employer Panos Pictures, which reported his death, confirming that his family has been notified. Another journalist was also injured in the same incident that killed Hetherington.
