Tobey Maguire is ready to swing from buildings and save damsels in distress, despite any pre-production setbacks Spider-Man 4 has encountered. The fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise had been scheduled to hit theaters in 2011; however, it may be beaten out by Marvel superhero vehicle Thor, scheduled for the same release date. Regardless, Tobey is looking forward to reprising his role as the web-slinging superhero.

"Like anything, it's a process," Tobey told the AP. "We're just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We're just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward."

Tobey has brought the beloved Peter Parker to life in the past three films, and said the movie is still slotted for 2011, but did not give a specific date.

"Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page," he said. "It's all happening right now. It's all sort of coming together. It's very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we've done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution."

The first two installments of the his franchise were huge box office blockbusters, but the reaction to Spider-Man 3 did not reach the same level.

Director Sam Raimi was unsure if he wanted to bring back Spidey for a fourth time around, but he did not have the heart to let him go just yet.

Raimi  said at the Cannes International Film Festival last year that he didn't like "thinking about a world where somebody else was making the Peter Parker story."
