Two days later, both camps issued a joint statement, which spread across the Internet and airwaves, promising to turn what had been a full-blown media storm into little more than a summer squall.
"We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter's best interests," the statement read. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our roles as parents."
Tom's camp seemed equally satisfied. The agreement granted him generous visitation rights, and there would be no messy trials, no public revelations that continued to drag the Church of Scientology through the mud. Moreover, his image was wonderfully intact. Tom looked good, big hearted even.

"Tom will do whatever it takes to make sure he come out on top," a source reveals. "Everything is going on the line — the homes, the jets, the money in the bank. He's worth $250 million, and he's made it clear that he's willing to spend every last cent fighting for Suri."
