Tom & Katie's Big Weekend Apart

Aug. 11 2008, Published 10:00 a.m. ET
In their more than three years together, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have rarely spent much time apart. But as the former Dawson's Creek actress preps for her Broadway debut in NYC, her Oscar-nominated hubby remains 3,000 miles away in California.
Of course, neither of them are alone — Katie has two-year-old daughter Suri to keep her company, and Tom's got his pals at the Church of Scientology.
On Saturday night, Tom attended the $500 a plate Anniversary Gala at the church's Celebrity Center in L.A. The annual event is held on the rooftop of the building and, in addition to the Mission: Impossible star, often brings in a whole host of A-list Scientologists like John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston.

Meanwhile, back in the Big Apple, Katie took little Suri to check out the Broadway hit Mary Poppins. The adorable tot joined her mom a week ago when the actress made a quick overnight trip home to L.A., only to slip back almost unnoticed.
Katie is set to make her Broadway debut in the revival of the Arthur Miller play All My Sons on Sept. 18.
