A source close to Tony, however, reveals he was battling inoperable brain cancer, which may have spurred the suicide. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today.

Tony directed Tom Cruise in Top Gun and Days of Thunder (where he met ex-wife Nicole Kidman) and helped catapult Denzel Washington to fame by directing him five times in Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Déjà Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable.
