Burl had given Sundance $1,500 for his stay in Los Angeles during the competition. The young ëIdol' hopeful, who didn't learn of the sad news until after the broadcast, came to 's dressing room to reveal the night's tragic events. She embraced him as he told her, 'You made a huge difference in my life by giving me this opportunity. Thank you, Ms. Abdul.'He then broke down and sobbed as he added, 'I just learned my uncle's house burned down with him in it today, but they didn't tell me because of the show. They don't know what happened.'Through her own tears, Paula said, 'I just can't believe it. Just as I was talking about how great a singer Sundance was and how he should never have been voted off, he came into my dressing room to tell me about his relative. I'm just lost for words.
