Although the NBA lockout is finally over, L.A. Laker Kobe Bryant still has a few personal issues to deal with during the season as his wife Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce on Friday, new reports reveal.

“We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season, the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time,” a rep for the soon-to-be ex couple told E! Online of wanting some downtime during their separation.

The basketball pro married Vanessa in 2001 when she was just 19-years-old and had two children with the former backup dancer, Natalia and Gianna.

Vanessa even stayed by her man’s side in 2003 when Kobe, 33, was accused of sexual assault by another woman, although the charges were eventually dropped.
Now, the duo is trying to work out the details of their split, “privately with the assistance of counsel.”
