Wednesday: Inspiration (and an important announcement)

I’ve dropped several hints, but I don’t think I’ve formerly announced that March 1 I’m moving to LA. I’m not making a big announcement because with my whole family in NYC, and a good relationship with Virgin America, I plan to be back so often most people probably won’t even notice I’m gone. That said, I don’t want to make a big dramatic exit – and then see a who’s who of everyone I know in NYC a week or two later. But, moving itself is still HARD, costly and time-consuming and today I’m taking the first major steps – looking for an apartment and a car! Unlike NYC the vacancy rate in LA is above 1 percent so it shouldn’t be as hard as finding a place to live has been in the past, but I have 36 hours. Thankfully Aaryn, best friend from college, is driving up from San Diego for 36 hours to help me sign a lease on both before she leaves. Stay tuned.
My friends Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, pictured here from the AmFar benefit at Cipriani in NYC a few days ago, made the move from NYC to LA when they started a company called The Halcyon Company. with a small film called Cook-Off. Not only have they adjusted, but now they’re producing the next Terminator Trilogy. The girl pictured between them is Kate Mara - she dates the Terminator Salvation director McG, has starred in 24, has two movies in the works – and her dad also owns the Giants.

They’re being very encouraging about the big move. Three of my closest girlfriends - Amber, Rachel and Joyce – also made the transition in the last year and live within blocks of where I’m looking in West Hollywood. So, as scary as picking up and moving across country sounds, and as intimidating as it may sometimes seem, with a stable job (yes, I’m staying with OK!), and a strong network of friends, there’s only so far I can fall ;) xo
