
Whoopi Does Xanadu

Whoopi Goldberg just can't stay away from the stage.
A month after hosting the Tony Awards, the View moderator announced plans to star in Broadway's Xanadu this summer.
The 52-year-old will begin a six-week engagement starting on July 29 as Caliope, one of the musical's evil sisters, subbing in for Jackie Hoffman in the role.
Whoopi is no stranger to Broadway. She starred in a one-woman show, The Spook Show, in the mid-80s and headlined A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and produced Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which she won a Tony.

This fall, she will also produce a revival of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, starring India.Arie.
