While we will have to wait until Sunday to find out whether the Steelers or the Packers will take the Super Bowl XLV title — the champion of wing eating has been crowned. This morning, 26 brave and brawny men competed in the Wing Bowl 2011, not the healthiest of sports, but nonetheless a very down and dirty endeavor! So who won? How many wings did he crush?
New Jersey accountant Jon “Super” Squibb, 6’4″, scarfed down 255 wings at the Wells Fargo Center this morning in Philadelphia in front of 20,000 spectators who came out for the 19th Annual 610WIP Wing Bowl — even before the doors opened fans of the Philly tradition began tailgating at 4 a.m. as they lined up to get good seats!
So how many calories did Squib take in? An approximate 40,000 calories and 2,550 grams of fat.
“He’s focused and he attacks those wings,” an announcer on CBS Sports Radio 610 WIP said of year’s champion. “He’s an amazing competitor.”
Known as “Super Squibb,” this is his third-straight Wing Bowl title, beating “El Wingador,” who finished with 254, by only one wing!
Going into the final two-minute speed round, Wingador held a 237-236 advantage.
Along with his title, Squibb walked away with $20,000 in first-place prize money and a 2011 Dodge Ram truck.
“I feel on top of the world,” said Squibb after his big win. “This was awesome, I was competing against my hero and it’s why I worked at this a little harder, and went at it a little stronger. I didn’t think it was that close.”
His girlfriend is also very proud of him!
“He remains to stay cute, even covered in wing sauce,” she said.
So will Squibb forgo wings this weekend at Super Bowl parties?
“I’ll probably have a pizza,” he said.
