WWE Star Darren Young Reveals He's Gay—See What Wrestling Pro John Cena Thinks of the News

Darren Young is no longer wrestling with a secret.

The World Wrestling Entertainment champ gave a very honest answer when TMZ caught up with him at the airport in Los Angeles and asked him if he believed a gay wrestler could be successful.

“Absolutely. Look at me," responded Darren. "I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now I’m gay and I’m happy. Very happy.”

The 29 year old then had his own questions for TMZ, fans and foes: "Does it matter to you? Does it change what you think about me?"

It shouldn't since Darren is the same person he was before his announcement. One thing that is different? He's the very first openly gay WWE star.

And it's nice to see that the WWE stands by their own. "WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar," the organization said in a statement.

And professional wrestler John Cena, who has a brother who is gay, also supports his pal. "I know Darren personally. Darren's a great guy," said John. "That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it."

As for other wrestlers? "For us, it's entertainment," continued John, "and if you're entertaining you shouldn't be judged by race, creed, color or sexuality...as long as you're entertaining."
