YOU HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH TOM CRUISE

Because he too is a Michael Phelps fan. Today I recounted to the story of Superbowl 2006. It was the day before the big game and a bunch of my friends and and I as well as scores of celebs were pre-partying at the relatively intimate club Mokai in Miami. The energy was palpable. Everyone was having a great time – even Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes, who was dancing on a banquette. I was with my friend Christy Farias who’s friends with Michael Phelps. Michael was with us too. We sometimes refer to him as guppy because he’s younger than us, and, well…
We were at a table across the room when a member of the Cruise security detail came over and told Michael Tom Cruise would like to speak to him. Michael obliged. At the table Tom shook Michael’s hand – and didn’t let go. Tom told Michael he and Katie were huge fans. Tom asked Michael if he knew the power of being the fastest swimmer in the world. Tom asked Michael if he knew the power of being the fastest at anything. Tom held onto Michael’s hand for an almost uncomfortable duration of time. Tom dare I say seemed starstruck. Tom said he and Katie would be watching TV and cheering Michael on when he raced.

I saw Tropic Thunder tonight. I heard Tom Cruise had a cameo, but I’d call it more a co-starring role than a cameo, he was a substantial piece of the film. He was funny. He didn’t trump Robert Downey Jr’s performance in my opinion, but I did find him entertaining. Without giving too much away, he stripped off his vanity to play a bald guy in a fat suit who hilariously dances to hip hop. It made me remember he’s an actor.
