Audition stories are the best, aren't they? They are typically awkward...angst-ridden...embarrassing, or some combination of the three. Even the fake ones are hilarious! So when Adam DeVine went on Kevin Pollak's Chat Show (a weekly, live podcast that you all need to start listening to, STAT) we were thrilled that Pollak decided to bring up Devine's unusual audition song for Pitch Perfect.

As Adam explains during the interview, his agents begged him to leave the set of his Comedy Central show, Workaholics to quickly audition for this role that he figured was in a baseball movie (It's called Pitch Perfect, after all).

"I'm like, looking at it the audition materials, and it's not a baseball movie," he explains, "And there's all these handsome dudes singing around me. And I'm like, "Why are all these guys singing? Nobody's even swinging a bat or something, they're all just beautifully singing songs."

So like any good improvisor, Adam went into the audition and went with his gut when asked for a song that he prepared:

"It's a rare condition, this day and age, to read any good news on the newspaper page. Love and tradition of the grand design, some people say it's even harder to find..."

You read that right—it's the theme song to the classic TGIF sitcom, Family Matters!

And just like that, Bumper was born. Listen to the whole interview below (It's fun! Do it!) Or if you're pressed for time, skip to 41:45 for the Pitch Perfect goodness:
