Rao Said She Loves Playing Issa

Amita Rao said that while she put a lot of herself into playing Issa, she is not the character she embodies on screen.
In the interview, Rao explained that while she put a lot of herself into her Adults character, she is not like that in real life.
“People totally do believe that I am Issa,” she said, explaining she can instantly tell by the way someone says hello to her.
“I don’t really feel hurt about it. If people saw the art that I made for myself and were only able to read it through the lens of Issa, I would understand, but that’d obviously be just a little more uncomfortable,” Rao continued.
“Public figures and actors do become canvases for projection, and that’s what you sign up for in a way,” she added.
Rao Shared Why She Took On 'Adults'

Amita Rao said the premise of 'Adults' was what made her join the show.
When asked what it was about the show that made her want to be a part of it, Rao candidly said, "The writing was really tight and really funny. The premise was really good. I remember when I first read it, I felt like I could add to it."
"That’s always the feeling I like when I read something because sometimes I’ll read something that I think is so funny, but something about my style or my rhythm will lead me to feel like I can’t add to it," she continued.
Rao concluded, "As someone who creates my own work and produces my own comedy, it’s important to me that I can add to the cumulative process."
