Alana Stewart Says Losing a Friend Over Donald Trump Support Is ‘So Shocking and So Sad’ in Political Divide

Alana Stewart said her support for President Donald Trump has cost her a longtime friendship, leaving the actress and author stunned by how sharply political differences can divide people who have known each other for years.

"I just had the most surprising experience of having a long-time good friend of mine tell me that she couldn't be my friend anymore because she can't be around anyone who supports Trump," Stewart wrote on X on September 3. "It's so shocking and so sad to me that some people can actually give up a friendship because of someone's political views."

Stewart said the situation was especially surprising because she and the former friend had never actually discussed politics.

"I know our views are so different," she wrote. "I mostly discuss my political views with like-minded people."

She also explained that she keeps her political opinions largely off Instagram while being more outspoken on X.

"I'm not a rabid Trump supporter who loves everything he does or says," Stewart wrote, adding she believes the president has done "a lot of good things for the country" and performed better than the previous administration.

Stewart said immigration was among the issues that mattered most when she backed Trump.

"Most of us who voted for him wanted the border closed and illegals deported, especially criminals," she wrote.

She also cited changes to tax policy as another reason for her continued support.

"He's gotten so much done during his term," Stewart wrote, specifically praising the removal of taxes on tips and changes involving Social Security taxes for seniors.

Stewart also rejected the way some critics describe Trump, calling the use of terms such as "fascist" another political buzzword.

The friendship appears to have ended without a political argument between the two women.

Stewart said she was particularly troubled by the idea that political disagreement could outweigh years of personal history.

"Conservatives would never end a long friendship because someone's political views were different," she wrote. "It just makes me shake my head."

Stewart's political involvement did not begin with Trump. She registered as a Republican in 2014 and endorsed her friend Marianne Williamson, an Independent who was running for Congress in California that year.

She later became an outspoken Trump supporter and voted for him in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

Stewart has also discussed conservative issues outside presidential politics. In 2020, she was among conservatives who stopped supporting Fox News after the network projected Joe Biden would win Arizona.

More recently, she has continued using X to defend Trump. In July, Stewart joked about "TDS" after Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself, asking why liberals were "so freaking uptight."
