Becoming Comfortable with Discomfort: How Creator Lauren Blake Built a Career Without Staying in One Lane

With more than a decade of experience building an online community, Lauren Blake has transformed her platform into opportunities spanning wellness, entrepreneurship, live media, and emerging technology.

For Lauren Blake, curiosity has been the driving force behind a career that has never fit neatly into one category.

Before building her social media community of more than two million followers, Blake earned an honors degree in biochemistry and was on the path to a future in medicine. At the same time, social media was creating entirely new career paths. An early $40 Instagram brand partnership gave Blake her first glimpse of what was possible and ultimately gave her the confidence to pursue an unconventional path as a creator.

More than a decade later, Blake has built a multifaceted career spanning lifestyle, wellness, entrepreneurship, AI, and live entertainment. Rather than containing her interests to separate chapters, they have served as extensions of the same philosophy: staying curious, continuing to learn, and being willing to evolve.

Building a Community and Career Online

Blake learned early that creating a lasting career online requires more than building a following.

“Over more than a decade as a digital creator, I have experienced firsthand how quickly platforms, trends, and audiences can change,” Blake explained. “It’s something that has required me to continually experiment, adapt, and become comfortable evolving publicly.”

Those experiences have also shaped Blake's approach to personal branding, refusing the ethos that creators must confine themselves to a single category or identity simply because it’s what an audience initially knows them for. Instead, she has used her platform as a foundation to explore new interests and build opportunities beyond social media.

That evolution has taken Blake from creating lifestyle content to launching a consumer wellness company, interviewing athletes and personalities as an on-camera host, and exploring how emerging technology can support fellow women, creators, and entrepreneurs.

Bringing Her Scientific Background Into Wellness

Blake's move into entrepreneurship brought her back to the scientific interests that shaped the beginning of her career.

After experiencing NAD+ through an IV treatment, she became interested in incorporating it into her wellness routine, but found the process expensive and inconvenient. Putting her Honors degree in biochemistry to the test, Blake began researching whether there could be a more accessible way to incorporate NAD+ into everyday life.

That research ultimately led her to found Hydra Powders, a drinkable NAD+ electrolyte powder.

“I’m a scientist at heart, and I knew I could find a way to make the benefits of NAD+ more accessible,” Blake shared. “After months of research and experimentation, Hydra Powders was born.”

For Blake, building Hydra Powders allowed her to bring together two sides of her background that might otherwise seem unrelated: her scientific education and her years of experience understanding consumers and building a community online.

“My approach to wellness really stems from the belief that self-care should feel approachable, not intimidating,” Blake said. “People should have the opportunity to feel their best whether balancing their budget or an on-the-go lifestyle.”

Backed by early investor funding, Blake plans to build out her team and expand the product’s footprint in the coming months.

Taking Her Creator Experience Beyond Social Media

As Blake's career has expanded, so have her forms of connection with audiences.

She has increasingly stepped into live media and on-camera hosting, including work around major boxing events with DAZN, Most Valuable Promotions, and Netflix. Her recent experience has included programming surrounding Xander Zayas vs. Jaron “Boots” Ennis, Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua, Claressa Shields vs. Franchón Crews-Dezurn, and Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Erickson Lubin.

The transition into hosting reflects a broader theme in Blake's career: becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable.

“For a long time I felt like I had to choose one path and stick to it, but I’ve learned that you don’t have to fit yourself into one box to build a meaningful career,” Blake said. “Life doesn’t follow a straight line, nor do many of our careers. There have been a lot of moments where I’ve had to bet on myself, even when I didn’t know exactly where that decision would lead. Once I realized that I needed to get comfortable with that discomfort, everything changed. Success doesn’t mean having everything figured out. It’s about continuing to evolve and trusting yourself enough to see where that evolution takes you.”

Staying Curious About What's Next

That same curiosity has now led Blake to her latest venture: emerging technology and AI.

Rather than positioning herself as a technologist, Blake approaches AI from the perspective of a creator, entrepreneur, and everyday user. She experiments with tools such as ChatGPT, emerging technology, and creator workflows and translates what she learns into approachable information and tutorials for her audience.

Her interest is ultimately practical: understanding how new tools can help people create, learn, and work more efficiently while still maintaining their human perspective.

“As AI becomes more embedded in everyday life, creators and consumers should understand both its possibilities and its limitations,” said Blake. “Responsible adoption means maintaining human judgment, creativity, consent, transparency, and accountability. Those principles ground my work to share and educate about AI.”

Looking ahead, Blake has no intention of choosing just one lane. She plans to continue expanding her work as an AI educator, entrepreneur, creator, and on-camera host while growing her interests across wellness, media, and technology.

“Ultimately, I hope my career can serve as an inspiration for others and demonstrate something bigger to the community I’ve built: that people can continue learning, reinvent themselves, and pursue multiple interests without being defined by the path they started on.”
