Cameron Diaz & Drew Barrymore Have A 'One-In-A-Million Friendship', Says Source: 'They Don't Take it For Granted'
Showbiz icons Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore have seen one another at their best, their worst and everything in-between.
“The thing that I love about our friendship is that we have been there in all the big and important moments, [and] we’ve also been there in the small moments and the casual moments,” Barrymore gushed of her longtime bond with her Charlie’s Angels costar. “The reason we are such good friends is because it’s real and we go through real stuff with each other. It’s not a Hollywood fairy-tale.”
“From breakups to heartache to baby bliss, Drew and Cameron have shared it all,” agrees an insider. “They agree they couldn’t have made it through the last three decades without each other.”
According to the insider, Diaz, 49, pulled Barrymore, 46, back from the brink during her split from Will Kopelman. “It was Cameron who helped Drew survive her darkest days,” shares the insider, adding that the Mask actress even moved in with Barrymore temporarily to help her cope as she struggled with the reality of becoming a single mom to two young girls. (The talk show host and Kopelman — who married Alexandra Michler in August — share Olive, 9, and Frankie, 7.)
When Barrymore hit her emotional rock bottom, the insider says Diaz was right there beside her — literally. “Drew was so upset,” says the insider. “Cameron slept on the floor by her bed so she could hold her hand in the middle of the night.”

Meanwhile, the 50 First Dates star has Diaz's back, too. Back in 2010, tensions allegedly arose between Diaz — who has since married Benji Madden, who she shares Raddix — and Kate Hudson over their mutual ex, Alex Rodriguez. “Drew’s known Kate for years, and she immediately called her to defend Cameron and smooth things over,” the insider reveals. “If one of them is feuding with someone, the other jumps in, no questions asked.”
The pals rarely go a day without talking. “They text all the time and video call each other when they’re picking out clothes or having a hard parenting moment,” dishes the insider.
Barrymore also reaches out to her lifestyle guru pal — who debuted her organic wine line, Avaline, last summer — when she needs help in the kitchen. “Cameron always has a recipe to share,” says the insider. “They’re pretty much joined at the hip, even when they’re on opposite coasts.”
As hectic as life gets, they always make time for each other. “Drew is so busy these days with her show, but whenever she has time to herself, she spends it with Cameron,” says the insider. “They have a one-in-a-million friendship, and they don’t take it for granted. It’s something they both cherish deeply.”
