Everyone needs help paying the rent! Though A-list celebs now splash out millions for sprawling mansions of their own, during the early years of their careers, plenty of budding stars shacked up together in cramped apartments to save money as they pursued their Hollywood dreams.
Scroll down to find out who traded off toilet-scrubbing duties back in the day!
Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling
What went wrong? "We aren't the closest of friends, for whatever reason," Timberlake, 39, demurred in 2017, years after his family welcomed fellow Mouseketeer, Canada-born Gosling, 40, into their home in the early 1990s. But back in the day, it was a different story. "We used to do terrible things. We thought we were so cool," the singer told Ellen DeGeneres in 2011. "We stole a golf cart!"
Jason Priestley and Brad Pitt
Down and dirty! In his book, Jason Priestley: A Memoir, the Beverly Hills: 90210 alum revealed he shared space with the Oscar winner, 57, when they were both starting out. "We lived on ramen noodles and generic beer — the kind that came in white cans labeled, 'beer'—and Marlboro Light cigarettes," the 51-year-old wrote in his 2014 book. "We were broke." The two also engaged in a dude-worthy competition to see who could go the longest without showering: "Brad always won."
Raven-Symoné and Lindsay Lohan
Both former child actors, Raven-Symoné, 35, and Lohan, 34, were a good fit as roommates. Just kidding! In 2008, Raven-Symoné, who wed social-media manager Miranda Maday this June, revealed that after she and the troubled Parent Trap star agreed to move in together in NYC, they rarely even saw each other. "She paid rent and was there probably three times," the View vet vented. "She had her clothes in the apartment that we were supposed to live in together."

Justin Long and Jonah Hill
The odd couple! Long, 42, admitted that shacking up with the Superbad star, 36, in the mid-2000s was a messy affair. "We started getting in little fights," the He's Just Not That Into You actor told host Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2016. "He left the bathroom door open, didn't clean up after himself. Little things like that." While the Accepted costars had their spats, they also "laughed like hyenas," he said — and are still "great friends."
Milo Ventimiglia and Penn Badgely
Before he played the deeply flawed but much-beloved patriarch of the Pearson clan on This Is Us, Milo, 43, was a real-life older-brother figure to roomie Penn, 34. The two decided to live together while they costarred as love rivals on The CW’s short-lived Bedford Diaries, about college students taking a class called Sex and the Human Condition. And, like a lot of college kids, Penn benefitted from having an of-age pal. “When I was 18, my roommate room mate was Milo Ventimiglia, who was 28 at the time,” he later said. “I used to borrow his ID to get into bars. I’ve still got it somewhere!”
Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow
If those walls could talk! Onetime besties, the Stranger Things star, 49, and Goop guru, 48, reportedly shared digs in the early 1990s. But their sitch is rumored to have gone south when Paltrow found Ryder's script for Shakespeare in Love. She lobbied for an audition and wound up winning an Oscar for the role! Years later, the mom of two seemed to shade Ryder, who was famously found guilty of shoplifting in 2002, when she wrote about a "frenemy" being humiliated: "My reaction was deep relief and happiness." Ouch.
