Country Star Hannah Dasher Refuses to Name 'Famous and Married' Celebrity Who Once Sent Her the 'Weirdest' DM

Country star Hannah Dasher spilled just enough details about the "weirdest" DM she's ever received to leave fans on the edge of their seats.

During an appearance on the Wednesday, August 5, episode of the "Like a Farmer" podcast, Dasher, 40, was asked about the strangest direct message she had received. She acknowledged the message came from someone famous and married but declined to name them.

"Well, I don't know that I could share it because they're famous and married," the "Waffle House" singer said. "So let me think of another one."

"I could have gone on some pretty big tours, you know, if I wasn't a Christian," she quipped. "Golly, the weirdest DM that I've gotten. I guess that would be it, right? I don't know. Oh, I think about that one."

Raised near Savannah, Ga., Dasher grew up listening to 1990s country music. After college, she moved to Nashville to pursue music professionally. She supported herself early on by selling boats and outboard motors at Bass Pro Shops but was fired for writing songs during work hours.

In 2013, Dasher signed her first publishing deal with BMG Chrysalis and later partnered with Sony/ATV Music Publishing alongside Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Three. Her breakthrough came in 2017 when Brad Paisley recorded "Go to Bed Early," a song she co-wrote, on his Love and War album.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dasher gained new fans through her TikTok cooking series, "Stand By Your Pan," blending Southern recipes with country music and comedy. The series quickly attracted over a million followers.

She signed with Sony Music Nashville in 2021, releasing her debut EP, "The Half Record," which featured tracks like "Leave This Bar" and "Girls Call the Shots." That year, she was named one of CMT's Next Women of Country and performed at the Grand Ole Opry multiple times.

Shortly after releasing her EP, Dasher said Sony ended her recording deal, a setback she described as a "huge humbling" experience.

"I think losing my record deal was a huge humbling that needed to occur in me and it was the last thing that I thought was ever going to happen," she told the podcast. "But the devil will steal your confidence when moments like that happen."

She emphasized the importance of self-motivation and support from loved ones in overcoming the challenge.

Dasher turned to writing a cookbook, Stand By Your Pan: 100 Easy and Affordable Comfort Food Recipes So Good They'll Hurt People's Feelin's, published in March, as a way to reignite her creativity. She has since returned to songwriting with renewed enthusiasm and independence.

"I'm so excited to be working on new music and just to be growing this thing," she said. "And this time it's just so much more free. I don't have any rules over me that I feel like I'm having to write for, or that I can't do this or I can't say this. I'm just making this as authentically Hannah as it can be. Just real."

Reflecting on the genre's current surge in popularity, Dasher noted that country music trends tend to cycle.

"I think country is always trending," she said. "I knew this '90s thing would come back around."

She shared her passion for traditional country elements, such as pedal steel guitar, which she fought to include in her music despite industry resistance.

"I just love it and I just knew that that was the vibe," Dasher explained. She compared this to Patsy Cline's resistance to the pop-influenced "Nashville sound" of strings and symphonies.

"I just think good stuff sticks around. And I just think people right now are really craving authenticity," she added.
