Dolly Parton's Sister Reveals Why Late Singer 'Chose Not to Express Her Opinions' on Politics and Religion

Dolly Parton's sister Stella called out the fake information surrounding the late country music icon following her death last month at the age of 80.

Stella, 77, took to her Instagram page on Friday, September 4, and shared why Dolly stayed away from discussing politics and religion during her career.

“First, let me say thank you to the ones of you who have shown ‘genuine’ support and love during this time of our family bereavement,” Stella began her statement on social media.

"We will be okay in time, but each of us will grieve in our own personal way," she continued.

"Every human being experiences pain and loss in life and my family is no different. Sadly, because of the way our lives have been lived in front of the public, we have no choice but to be subjected to incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers," she stated.

"There is a tremendous amount of Al and endless garbage being posted everyday," Stella said. "It's been challenging to absorb and or ignore. As time passes, those who are in the business of exploiting the loss and tragedies of others on a daily basis will move on to the next stampede of endless misinformation."

The songwriter added: "My big sister Dolly would be surprised and delighted by the love her family has been shown during this time. She loved her fans and the public in general."

"That is the reason she chose not to express her opinions on a lot of things like politics, religion and individuals in the public eye," she wrote. "She knew as well as anyone what a negative vortex that could turn into which is nothing but a huge waste of positive energy."

"My sister was a positive influence to the world into which she was born. She used her music as a tool and a passion to move people in a positive way," Stella said.

While the 9 to 5 star often shied away from speaking out about contentious subjects in public, she was open about her Christian upbringing.

Dolly grew up in the Pentecostal church alongside her preacher grandfather in rural Tennessee.

In her biography, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, she penned: “I’m not that religious, but I’m very, very spiritual. I grew up in very religious surroundings. I grew up with a Bible background, and I’m glad I did. I know my Bible stories.”

The "Jolene" crooner died on August 25 after she was hospitalized at Nashville's Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center four days earlier for kidney and autoimmune issues.

Her passing followed a brief battle with cancer, and she was laid to rest next to her late husband, Carl Dean, in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
