PoliticsDonald Trump Slammed by Critics for Claiming Firemen 'Lifted' Him Out of Harm's Way Near Ground Zero 'Right After' 9/11: 'Completely Imagined Lies'

Donald Trump appeared to lie about his involvement in 9/11 cleanup.

President Donald Trump uncorked a wild tale about where he was during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, telling a crowd of 9/11 first responders that he had to be carried to safety.
"I took the whole crew down there right after this happened. And we had other buildings. The United States Steel building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down because it creaked a lot. I will never forget," he stated.
Donald Trump said fireman ran with him away from the 'creaking' building.
"Two firemen, we thought it was coming down on top of us and two firemen, big strong guys — and I’m not the smallest guy in the world — they grabbed me under the arms and said, ‘Gotta get out of here,’ and they literally lifted me up," he continued.
"This is not easy to do. I’m big," the POTUS said. "They lifted me up, and they started running with me. I said, ‘Fellas, I can run myself.’ But they were amazing, but they thought it was coming down. It didn’t come down."
There's No Evidence Supporting Donald Trump's Wild Story

Donald Trump bragged about having the tallest tower in New York City on 9/11.
There is no evidence to support the idea that Trump personally went to Ground Zero to clear rubble.
In fact, Trump infamously called into a news program that day and bragged that after the Twin Towers collapsed, his building, Trump Tower, was now the tallest skyscraper in New York City. Trump was in Trump Tower at the time, which is four miles from Ground Zero.
“I have a window that looks directly at the World Trade Center. I saw this huge explosion, I was with a group of people. I really couldn’t even believe it,” he said in his memorable 9/11 call.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he personally went to Ground Zero that day to help clear rubble, and that he paid his employees to do the same. He told versions of the story in 2016 and 2019.
The claim has been repeatedly debunked by numerous news organizations, including Politifact and Newsweek.
Roger Alles, who was the New York City Fire Department battalion chief during the tragedy, told Politifact in 2019, “I was there for several months — I have no knowledge of (Trump) being down there.”
There's No Evidence Donald Trump or His Employees Helped With 9/11 Cleanup

No one witnessed Donald Trump allegedly helping with 9/11 cleanup.
On September 13, 2001, Trump told a German media outlet that he and 120 workers were going to Ground Zero to help clear the rubble.
Alles insisted there was no record of such a Trump-led force present.
“There would be a record of it,” Alles said. “Everybody worked under direct supervision of the police and fire department and the joint commander for emergency services. Is there a chance he was ever down there by himself and I didn’t know it? It’s possible, but I know of no one who ever witnessed him there.”
Social Media Was Gobsmacked by the Lie

Social media was stunned by Donald Trump's apparent lie.
Trump's repetition of his easily disproven claim that he was at Ground Zero on 9/11 — made just three days before the 25th anniversary of the attacks — stunned social media.
"This is even funnier because one of the key 9/11 memories to me is Trump being on the phone with a New York radio show just after the towers fell and laughing about how he had the tallest building in the city after that," wrote one X commenter.
"I just don't know how you can compete in a media-environment where Joe Biden flubbing a word in a press conference receives complete media saturation coverage as proof of how senile/unfit he is for the job, while Trump (whose brain is just totally gone) telling very specific, completely imagined lies about his heroism at a f------ 9/11 memorial (!!!!) will barely get any coverage outside of the partisan lib-sphere," added another.
